Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 8 slices Texas toast
- Butter, for toasting
Directions:
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced onion and green bell pepper to the skillet with the ground beef. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Add the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors are well blended and the sauce has thickened.
- While the sloppy joe mixture is simmering, prepare the Texas toast according to the package instructions. Spread butter on both sides of each slice and toast until golden brown.
- Once the Texas toast is toasted, spoon a generous portion of the sloppy joe mixture onto each slice.
- Serve hot and enjoy the deliciously messy goodness of Texas Toast Sloppy Joes!
Note: Feel free to customize your sloppy joes with additional toppings such as shredded cheese, sliced jalapeños, or pickles for an extra kick of flavor.
