This unique twist on a classic dessert combines the zesty flavor of Mountain Dew with the comforting warmth of dumplings. These Mountain Dew Dumplings are sure to surprise and delight your taste buds!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup Mountain Dew
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Zest of 1 lemon (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Slowly pour in the Mountain Dew, stirring gently, until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
- In a separate saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, water, ground cinnamon, and lemon zest (if using). Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Once the sugar mixture is ready, carefully spoon it over the prepared baking dish.
- Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop spoonfuls of the dough onto the simmering sugar mixture in the baking dish.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the baking dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve the Mountain Dew Dumplings warm, either on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat. Enjoy!
