These Ham and Cheese Pinwheels are the perfect combination of savory ham, creamy cheese, and flaky pastry. They make for a delicious appetizer or snack that’s sure to impress your guests.
Ingredients:
- 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
- 6 slices of ham
- 6 slices of Swiss cheese
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for garnish
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- On a lightly floured surface, unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Roll it out slightly to smooth any creases and to create a larger rectangle.
- Spread the Dijon mustard evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Layer the slices of ham evenly over the mustard-covered pastry, followed by the slices of Swiss cheese.
- Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the puff pastry into a log, like a jelly roll.
- Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 1-inch thick pinwheels. You should get about 12 pinwheels from one sheet of pastry.
- Place the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart to allow for expansion.
- Brush the tops of the pinwheels with the beaten egg, and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and optional sesame seeds or poppy seeds.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your delicious Ham and Cheese Pinwheels!
