Simple White Rice Recipe

A basic yet essential recipe for making perfectly fluffy white rice every time. Ideal for accompanying a variety of dishes or enjoyed on its own as a comforting staple.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white rice
  • 2 cups water

Directions:

  1. Rinse the rice: Place the rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming too sticky.
  2. Combine rice and water: In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and water. Make sure the rice is evenly distributed in the pot.
  3. Bring to a boil: Place the saucepan over high heat and bring the water to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer: Once the water is boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid. Allow the rice to simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until all the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender.
  5. Fluff the rice: Once the rice is cooked, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Then, uncover the pot and use a fork to gently fluff the rice, separating the grains.
  6. Serve: Serve the fluffy white rice as a side dish with your favorite main courses or enjoy it on its own.

Note: For variations, you can add a pinch of salt or a tablespoon of butter to the water before cooking the rice for added flavor. You can also substitute chicken or vegetable broth for water for a richer taste.
