Tropical Ambrosia Fruit Salad Recipe

This recipe takes the classic ambrosia salad and injects it with some tropical flair! Perfect for a summer potluck or a refreshing dessert.

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup full-fat sour cream
  • 1 (16 oz) jar maraschino cherries, drained (reserve some whole for garnish)
  • 1 (11 oz) can mandarin orange segments, drained
  • 1 (20 oz) can crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 fresh papaya, peeled, seeded, and cubed
  • 1 fresh mango, peeled and cubed
  • 2 ½ cups (about 6 oz) mini fruit-flavored marshmallows
  • 1 kiwifruit, peeled and cut into wheels

  1. Make the whipped cream: In a large bowl or using a stand mixer, whip the heavy cream with the sugar until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the sour cream.
  2. Prepare the fruit: Pat the halved maraschino cherries dry with paper towels. Combine the halved cherries, drained mandarin oranges, pineapple, papaya chunks, mango chunks, and marshmallows in a large bowl.
  3. Assemble the salad: Gently fold the whipped cream mixture into the fruit mixture.
  4. Serve: Divide the salad into dessert cups or a serving bowl. Garnish with reserved whole maraschino cherries and kiwi slices. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
