Slow Cooker Swiss Steak Recipe

This recipe provides a simple and delicious way to prepare Swiss steak using a slow cooker. Tenderized beef, flavorful vegetables, and a savory sauce come together to create a comforting meal perfect for any day of the week.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 pounds round steak, cut into serving-size pieces
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (optional, for thickening)

Directions:

  1. Season the round steak pieces with salt, pepper, and paprika on both sides.
  2. Place the sliced onions, minced garlic, carrots, and celery in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Lay the seasoned steak pieces on top of the vegetables in a single layer.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes (with their juices), beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and dried thyme. Pour this mixture over the steak and vegetables in the slow cooker.
  5. Cover and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours or on high heat for 3-4 hours, or until the steak is tender.
  6. If you prefer a thicker sauce, about 30 minutes before the cooking time is complete, mix 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour with 2 tablespoons of water to make a slurry. Stir the slurry into the slow cooker contents and continue cooking until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Once the steak is tender and cooked to your liking, serve hot, spooning the vegetables and sauce over the steak pieces.
  8. Optionally, garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.

Enjoy your delicious slow cooker Swiss steak with your favorite side dishes!
