Pecan Sticky Buns Recipe

These gooey, buttery buns loaded with pecans are perfect for a special breakfast or brunch.

  • Dough:
    • Warm water (110°F/43°C)
    • Active dry yeast
    • Buttermilk
    • Eggs
    • All-purpose flour
    • Margarine or butter, softened
    • White sugar
    • Baking powder
    • Salt
  • Filling:
    • Butter, softened
    • White sugar
    • Ground cinnamon
    • Chopped pecans
  • Topping:
    • Packed brown sugar
    • Butter, melted
    • Pecans

  1. Make the dough: Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl. Add buttermilk, eggs, half of the flour, softened margarine, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Beat on medium speed until combined. Gradually add remaining flour and knead until soft and slightly sticky. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a small bowl, cream together softened butter, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Assemble the buns: Grease a baking dish. Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface into a large rectangle. Spread the filling over the dough, then sprinkle with chopped pecans.
  4. Roll and cut: Starting from a long side, roll up the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal. Cut the log into slices and place them cut-side down in the prepared baking dish.
  5. Make the topping: In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar and melted butter. Pour this mixture evenly over the buns. Sprinkle with additional pecans.
  6. Bake: Cover the dish loosely and let the buns rise again for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and the topping is bubbly.
  7. Serve: Let the buns cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with frosting or glaze, if desired.
