Orange Sherbet Recipe

This recipe creates a refreshing homemade orange sherbet perfect for a hot summer day.

  • 2 cups fresh-squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk

  1. Combine Sugar and Orange: In a large bowl, whisk together ⅔ cup of the sugar, orange zest, and orange juice until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Whip the Cream: In a separate bowl, use a whisk or electric mixer to whip the heavy cream and the remaining ⅓ cup of sugar until the cream thickens and forms soft peaks.
  3. Incorporate Milk and Cream: Stir the milk into the orange mixture. Gently fold the whipped cream into the orange mixture using a spatula, taking care not to deflate the cream.
  4. Chill the Base: Cover and refrigerate the sherbet base for at least 1 hour, or until well chilled.
  5. Churn the Sherbet: Follow the instructions for your ice cream maker to churn the sherbet base. The churned sherbet will have the consistency of soft-serve ice cream.
  6. Freeze for Firmness: Freeze the sherbet in an airtight container for a firmer texture, or if you don’t plan on eating it right away. Enjoy your refreshing homemade orange sherbet!
