Homemade Creamy Cream Cheese Recipe

Learn how to make delicious creamy cream cheese at home with this simple recipe.

  • 4 cups of whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice or white vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  1. Prepare the Milk:
    • Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it reaches just below boiling (around 180°F or 82°C). Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
  2. Add Acid:
    • Remove the milk from heat and stir in the lemon juice or vinegar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. You will notice the milk curdling and separating into curds (solid) and whey (liquid).
  3. Strain the Curds:
    • Line a colander with cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel and place it over a large bowl. Pour the curdled milk through the cloth to strain out the whey.
  4. Season and Mix:
    • Gather the corners of the cheesecloth and twist it gently to squeeze out any excess whey. Transfer the curds to a bowl and stir in the salt, mixing until smooth and creamy.
  5. Shape and Chill:
    • If desired, shape the cream cheese into a block by wrapping it tightly in the cheesecloth and placing it in the refrigerator for a few hours to firm up.
  6. Serve or Store:
    • Your homemade creamy cream cheese is ready to be used in recipes or spread on bagels and toast. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Enjoy your freshly made cream cheese!
