Cheesy Meatball Casserole Recipe

This casserole is a cheesy, comforting dinner that’s perfect for a weeknight meal.

  • For the Meatballs:
    • 1 pound ground beef (or a combination of ground beef and pork)
    • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
    • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • ¼ cup chopped onion
    • 1 large egg
    • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • For the Casserole:
    • 1 (16-ounce) box of pasta (such as penne or fusilli)
    • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce (your favorite brand)
    • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    • Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Make the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped onion, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Don’t overmix, or the meatballs will be tough.
  3. Form the meatballs into 1-inch balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake the meatballs for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through. A thermometer inserted into the center of a meatball should read 160°F (71°C).
  5. While the meatballs are baking, cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain the pasta and set it aside.
  6. In a large baking dish, combine the cooked pasta and marinara sauce. Stir to coat the pasta evenly.
  7. Add the cooked meatballs to the pasta mixture.
  8. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  9. Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired.
  11. Serve hot and enjoy!
