Cannoli Recipe

Cannoli are traditional Italian pastries filled with sweetened ricotta cheese, often flavored with vanilla and sometimes with chocolate or candied fruits. They are typically served as a dessert.

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 12 cannoli shells (store-bought or homemade)
  • Oil for frying (if making homemade shells)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.
    • If desired, stir in the mini chocolate chips for added texture and flavor. Refrigerate the filling while you prepare the shells.
  2. Prepare the Cannoli Shells:
    • If using store-bought shells, skip to step 3. If making homemade shells:
      • Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
      • Roll out cannoli dough and cut into circles using a cookie cutter. Wrap each circle around a cannoli tube or metal form.
      • Fry the shells until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels and allow them to cool completely before removing the tubes.
  3. Fill the Cannoli:
    • Once the shells are cool, gently remove the metal tubes or forms.
    • Using a piping bag or a spoon, fill each shell with the prepared ricotta filling. Start from one end and fill towards the other end.
    • Optionally, dip the ends of the filled cannoli into chopped pistachios, mini chocolate chips, or powdered sugar for decoration.
  4. Serve:
    • Arrange the filled cannoli on a serving platter and dust with powdered sugar just before serving.
    • Cannoli are best served fresh. Enjoy!

This recipe makes about 12 cannoli, depending on the size of your shells. Adjust quantities as needed.
