  • For the Cake:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • ½ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
    • 3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (about 2 cups)
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, to prevent apples from browning)
  • For the Topping:
    • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon


  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or a square baking dish.
  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.
