Air Fried Sweet Chilli Garlic Petals Recipe

This recipe uses your air fryer to create crispy, flavorful petals with a sweet and spicy kick! Perfect for a party appetizer or a light snack.

  • 1 large artichoke (or 2 small artichokes)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup melted butter or olive oil
  • 1/3 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  1. Prep the Artichokes: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Using a sharp knife or kitchen shears, trim the stem of the artichoke and cut off about 1 inch from the top. Carefully pull off the tough outer leaves until you reach the softer, inner leaves. Using a spoon, scrape out the fuzzy choke from the center. Cut the artichoke heart into thin petals, about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Season the Petals: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika (if using), salt, and pepper. In another shallow bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese. In a third shallow bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, and minced garlic.
  3. Coating and Air Frying: Dredge the artichoke petals in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Then, dip the petals in the wet mixture, ensuring they are well coated. Finally, coat the petals in the panko breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Air Fry the Petals: Arrange the breaded artichoke petals in a single layer in your air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve and Enjoy! Serve the air-fried sweet chili garlic petals immediately while hot. For an extra kick, you can drizzle with additional sweet chili sauce or sriracha.
